A good friend, Bob, sent me his movie review of “2016: Obama’s America” and has given me permission to share it with you. So, here goes…read on.
“2016: Obama’s America”
I went to the movies last Friday. I went specifically to watch Dinesh D’Souza’s documentary, “2016:Obama’s America.” At the conclusion of this movie, I watched, as people, seemingly stunned, did not move. It was quite a while before they began to slowly move toward the exit. I’ve not experienced that at a movie before. Now, I must admit, I haven’t been an avid movie attendee, so perhaps I am wrong…but perhaps not. At the conclusion of his film, producer and star Dinesh D’Souza, asks viewers a question: “Will we pursue the American dream…or Barack Obama’s dream?”
Mathew May wrote, “Review: 2016: Obama’s America,” and I quote, “That dream, as D’Souza argues, is the defeat of oppressive colonialism that manifested itself in the rise of the United States as the dominant world power at the expense of the third world. In short, Obama seeks to right the wrongs identified by the most radical Communist sympathizers and activists of the post-World War II world, with Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. chief among them. D’Souza, utilizing Obama’s first autobiography, Dreams from My Father, takes viewers along for a journey into Obama’s upbringing in Hawaii and Indonesia, and then to his alleged self-discovery in Kenya at his father’s grave.” (quoted from http://is.gd/6T1PSM ).
The film is going gangbusters across the nation, much to the horror, shock and dismay of the mainstream press, or at least the Hollywood press. It was in 1090 theaters this weekend, and was expected to take in $3.7 to $5 million. “Deadline Hollywood,” an industry news source which follows box-office money makers, says that the shocker among all the films currently showing was the “political documentary, ‘2016: Obama’s America,’ which wound up in 4th place last Friday, and 8th place for the weekend. They said, “That is stunning because it was playing in 2/3 fewer theaters across North America than the other wider release films.” It finally brought in over $9.0M, making it the #1 all-time biggest grossing conservative political documentary.
D’Souza’s journey depicts Obama as a “lost, little boy” who had a string of surrogates influencing him, people D’Souza calls “Obama’s Founding Fathers.” Consider this list of early teachers and “influencers” of Obama’s life: Communist writer and activist Frank Marshall Davis, terrorist Bill Ayers, anti-Israeli crank Edward Said, anti-American Pastor Jeremiah Wright, and Brazilian Communist professor Roberto Unger. Mathew May said in his article that growing up with the strong influence of Marxist, anti-colonial propaganda, “Obama was early on persuaded that the United States of America represents the greatest threat to mankind in the world, and must be taken down.”
I agree with both May and D’Souza, that Obama’s policies can easily be traced to his worldview. Look at the contempt Obama has shown Great Britain (he returned the bust of Winston Churchill, and has opposed them in their concerns about the Faulklands, among other things). Look at how he treats Israel, supporting radical Islamic actions in the Middle East. He is decreasing our nuclear arsenal, while Russia, North Korea, Iran and others increase their weaponry. Through it all one can easily see the influence and implementation of the theories expressed by Obama’s father and many of his surrogates and teachers.
May said, “Obama chose to associate with, study under, emulate, and work alongside the worst this nation has to offer. D’Souza’s film is but a visual version of what many have known for years: Barack Obama may be a natural-born American citizen, and he may be the American president. He may be from America, but he is not of America. Neither is his dream.”
In the documentary, D’Souza said, “We try to look at Obama within the context of American history, and he doesn’t have one. Obama doesn’t have an American history to be compared against.” What he means is that the people who nurtured, mentored and taught Obama have a global view of this country, which is this…that it is unfairly large, unjustly a superpower, that it has cheated and stolen its way, and thus some of this needs to be given back. Obama also sees the success of our country in the same way…that we have not acquired our wealth in a just, fair manner, therefore it also needs to be given back. His view of America is not how most Americans see themselves. He has a totally different perspective, a different impression of what this country is, and what it should be.
Thomas Sowell calls this a “Powerful Movie” in his review (http://is.gd/bqLvvR ). He says, “The story of Barack Obama, however, is not just the story of how one man came to be the way he is. It is a much larger story about how millions of Americans came to vote for, and some to idolize, a man whose fundamental beliefs and values are so different from their own.” He goes on to describe Obama’s “Third World, or anti-colonial view” (so aptly thundered by Obama’s Pastor Jeremiah Wright as “white folks greed runs a world in need”) and how Obama’s ideology has been the backdrop for his perfectly consistent decisions… decisions that ran directly counter to his rhetoric that gained him his position as President.
A personal friend, Wally, also went to see the movie. He wrote: “One underlying philosophy driving Obama is his stance of ‘anti- colonialism’ and his definition and interpretation of it. Accordingly, one of his principal objectives is to eliminate the USA from ‘superpower’ status. He is in the process of doing it. In contrast is his goal of elevating the Muslim world. He is also doing that.
“Other Obama drivers are class (warfare), racism, wealth distribution, creating mediocrity, greatly expanding government to create dependency on it for ones existence and welfare, increasing the national debt (it will be 20 trillion by 2016 and rising), and others. The movie depicts them in detail.
He goes on to say, “To the movie viewer, many questions arise. For instance, where did he get the money to attend Occidental College, Columbia and Harvard, all ‘private’ colleges and exorbitantly expensive? And expenses to travel worldwide? What about I.D’s. Records? A multitude of questions. Why hasn’t the media asked and investigated these questions? Politics, or other motives?
“The bottom line is that HE MUST NOT BE REELECTED. Our nation already is ‘on the brink’ of economic and geopolitical disaster. God forbid four more years of running, not walking, to the edge of the cliff.”
My conclusion agrees with those above: Go see the movie, then decide. It will be well worth your time. Go before it is taken out of theaters for the next big blockbuster that is coming along. See it before you decide how to vote. Then go vote!
My personal thought is that we have now endured 3 ½ years of Obama’s policies and direction. I do not like his policies, and fear his direction. I do not believe he has America’s future success at heart. He has maligned Christian values, and then promotes Islam. We are a great nation, and can be, and should be greater. If Obama is re-elected, I am extremely afraid of his second-term agenda, which he has not announced, nor will he. If he did, he would never be elected…period. He was basically elected the first time without sharing any of his agenda during the campaign.
Please, be aware of what is going on, politically in our nation. Also, pray for our nation and for our leaders.
So…Will we pursue the American dream…or Barack Obama’s dream?
Bob…a concerned American!
